AURORA Project – Artificial intelligence applied to the dimensional improvement of additive manufacturing parts through automated inspection

The AURORA initiative, developed by AIDIMME together with the companies Clam Desarrollo, Clínica Gironés, GH Electrotermia, and Valver, applies artificial intelligence techniques to minimize dimensional errors in polymeric powder bed additive manufacturing parts.

The purpose of the AURORA project is to know, through the application of artificial intelligence techniques (neural networks, or SVM supervised learning algorithms, among other AI resources), the causes of possible geometric deviations of the pieces, and in this way to be capable of foreseeing or reducing these deviations in future manufacturing.

Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are currently being used for the production of massive numbers of final parts for multiple uses, and inspection of AM parts is difficult due to the complex geometry of the parts, and in the manufacturing process it is necessary to identify them individually.

This productive reality is a reason that gives full meaning to the research “Artificial intelligence applied to the dimensional improvement of additive manufacturing parts through automated inspection”, called AURORA, and which is subsidized by the Valencian Institute of Competitiveness and Innovation, Ivace+ i, through the EU ERDF Fund.
